The Census Research Data Centers have become the Federal Statistical Research Data Centers. This name change acknowledges the growing contribution of other Federal agencies making their data available for statistical research in the RDCs.
National Survey of College Graduates
The National Survey of College Graduates (NSCG) is a longitudinal survey that samples the nation’s college graduates who have recently received their degree and includes questions regarding education, employment opportunities, and salaries. Currently the data from 2010 is available. Please note: proposals will require approval from the Census Bureau and NSF.
New RDC Projects!
Media Exposure and Health Insurance Take Up
Investigators: Sarah Gollust and Pinar Karaca-Mandic, Division of Health Policy and Management
This study examines geographic variation in media messaging about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and its relationship to health insurance enrollment in 2014. They have constructed a novel data set available to them through the Wesleyan Media Project of all broadcast news stories about the ACA, all political advertisements about the ACA, and all insurance-related advertisements aired in the U.S. between October 2013 and April 2014. They are linking this with individual-level data to assess whether county-level media volumes are associated with changes in insurance status. Golllust and Karaca-Mandic are working with graduate student Andrew Wilcock.
Events and Announcements
RDC Conference in June
The RDC Conference is scheduled for September 15th in College Station, TX. It is a great opportunity to hear about the research going on across the RDC network as well as get feedback from researchers who are most familiar with the benefits and challenges of non-public data. Please watch your email for the call for proposals.
Do you have an idea for a research project in the MN RDC? Contact the MnRDC to discuss research opportunities. Rachelle Hill is available to help clarify what data may be available, the requirements for using the data, and in developing a proposal. Visit census.gov for a list of available datasets or contact Rachelle (612.626.4365 or [email protected] ) to get started.
