New RDC Projects!

Impact of Expanded Nurse Practitioner Scope of Practice Laws
Investigators: Heather Dahlen (Medica Research Institute) and Michel Boudreaux (University of Maryland)
This study examines two questions. First, whether and how nurse practitioner scope of practice laws have affected health and access to health care among nonelderly low-income adults. Second, does nurse practitioner independence have a differential impact on health care access, use, and affordability based on Medicaid expansion status. The study uses data from the 2006-2015 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) with the restricted geographic identifiers from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The researchers also draw on supplemental data including county economic and health care market characteristics, state legislative rules on nurse practitioner scope of practice, Medicaid eligibility thresholds, and data on Primary Care Service Areas (PCSAs).
